  • The opportunity to meet suppliers of safety systems and equipment
  • Personal, professional development
  • Kudos and high visibility with peers/employer/etc
  • Technology transfer
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Enable EU industry to exploit as rapidly as possible the benefits that IEC-61508 offers, reducing capital and operational costs of systems, whilst maintaining safety performance and protecting people, environment and assets
  • Improve communication, assist regulatory bodies in ensuring that new systems do not introduce new intolerable risks and reduce both assessment time and time to market
  • Provide the mechanisms for sharing and capitalising on practical and uniform implementation guidance
  • Overcome many of these barriers to the sharing and availability of material
  • Providing an interactive, dynamic and rapid means of capitalising on industry’s experiences
  • Guidance and information to those who are responsible for making decisions on the appropriate safety strategies
  • Demonstrate how the EU process and allied industries can cost effectively reap the benefits 61508 offers with demonstrable safety and economic benefits
  • Contribute to increasing competency and knowledge within companies and organisations throughout the EU and the Accession States
  • Providing open access to implementation guidance will stimulate further contributions over the longer term and provide a baseline contribution to other safety-related activities in the standards, technologies and safety field
  • Stimulate technology transfer and provide accelerated learning and development in the areas of functional safety and implementation of the standard.
  • As international markets and supply-chain organizations progressively adopt the standard, those who have demonstrated cost effective implementations and their contribution to safety performance will be seen as market leaders able to exploit their position
  • Assist assessors and certifiers of safety-related systems and facilities by shortening the time required for certification resulting in a decrease in the time to market for safety-related products
  • Provide a cost-effective mechanism for sharing and capitalizing on best practice
  • Keep track of the latest research and thinking and be able to rapidly respond to market demands.
